Open Instagram Settings

Go to your Instagram profile and open the Settings menu.

Where to go

Your Profile → ☰ Menu (top right) → Settings & Privacy

The menu icon (☰) is the three horizontal lines at the top right corner of your profile page.

Go to Account Center

Inside Settings, find and tap Account Center to access Meta's data tools.

Settings & Privacy → Account Center → Your information and permissions

Account Center is a Meta feature. It controls settings across Instagram and Facebook.

Tap "Export your information"

Inside "Your information and permissions", tap the Export option.

Your information and permissions → Export your information

It has a small external link icon (↗) next to it. Tap it and it will open in a browser page.

Select your Instagram account

Choose which account to export data from, then select what type of export you want.

Where to go

Download or transfer information → Your Instagram account → Some of your information

Choose "Some of your information" — not "All" — so the file is smaller and faster to generate.

Select "Followers and following" only

Scroll through the list and tick only Followers and following. Untick everything else to keep the file small.

Make sure only "Followers and following" is checked. Everything else can be unticked.

Set the correct export settings

This is the most important step. You must set the format to JSON or the website won't be able to read your file.

Format HTML → JSON ✓

Date range Last year → All time ✓

Export to Device ✓

JSON format is required. If you pick HTML, the upload won't work. Change it before tapping "Create files".

Wait for the email & download

Tap "Create files" or "Start export". Instagram will notify you when the ZIP is ready.

What happens next

Tap Start export → Wait for email/notif → Download ZIP

It usually takes a few minutes to a few hours. You have 4 days to download it once it's ready before the link expires.

Check your spam/junk folder if you don't see the email. Also watch for an Instagram notification — it usually comes first!
